Contact with a leper risks contracting the disease, and makes an observant Jew ritually impure. This leper approaches Jesus in profound humility, kneels down, and acknowledges that Jesus has the power to heal him, if it is God’s will. Jesus could easily cure the leper with a word. But, amazingly, Jesus touches the leper. Instead of the leprosy making Jesus ritually unclean, Jesus’ power and holiness makes the leper clean.
